Live in Mount Carmel Pennsylvania and still heat my home with Anthracite. Mount Carmel was the first community in the world to have electric street lights and Thomas Edison built his 6th power plant in Mount Carmel.

I grew up in Watsontown Pa. There is an eel trap just outside of town south toward Milton. We were catching eels there in 1995. Haven't been back to fish since. The fishing was great there where the white deer creek came into the Susquehanna you could catch a trout a walleye and a large mouth bass all in the same spot.

Anthracite fields start much further North than Wilkes-Barre. More like 30-40 miles North, in Forest City (Susquehanna County), running down South through Carbondale, the Mid-Valley, Scranton and Old Forge (all of Lackawanna County) before entering Luzerne County.

Hey Van. Great video. They also dredged coal on the Swatara creek in Schuylkill and Lebanon counties. They didn't use boats since the Swatara is small. There was one such operation still partially visible in the Swatara state park. The location is called sand siding across from Twin Grove camp ground.

This boob said Wilkes Barre. He ignores Scranton, Carbondale and up to Forest City. Anthracite coal was discovered in Carbondale. Boob.

My Uncle grew up in Bitumen. Across from the church. We used to ride our motorcycles all over the strippings out there when they were surface mining.

I came back to watch this video and i have to tell you that this is the best video production on iron production i have seen, from the ore rock mining, to charcoal, to smelting to pig iron process, the forges, transportation, its all covered. Great job, i saved this video. Thank you

That would be an extreme adventure to complete climbing every state tree in every state but I'm sure even though you probably would be broke when you were done I'm sure you would be happy.
